Slice of Life #12 - Why I Write

This was inspired by another slicers interview with herself as a writer...I loved the question "Why do I write?" Her answer was inspiring and so I decided to answer the question for myself in the form of a poem.

Why I Write

I write to understand
to dig deeper and uncover hidden truths
  about myself and human nature
I write to be known
to share a common experience and connect
I write to refine and hone a craft that so often
   seems beyond me
I write...

  1. I couldn't agree with you more. I write for the same reasons. I also write to appreciate and recognize the small moments.

  3. I love how you wrote that "I write to understand, to dig deeper and uncover hidden truths
about myself and human nature" . I know for me one of the reasons I love to write is because it helps me reflect and process this journey of ours!

  4. All great reasons to write, but the power of this poem was the final line, I write . . .
    I am glad you do!

  6. I write to share a common experience is my favorite line. This journey is teaching me, as you, to hone our craft. Love this slice!

  7. The one I connected with was "I write to share a common experience and connect." I think that speaks loudly for Slice of Life -- we are sharing bits and pieces of our crazy lives knowing that we will connect! Thanks for sharing your 'whys' with us!

  8. "I write to dig deeper to uncover hidden truths." <--- Great line. I know when I start a piece I'm never sure where it will take me. Sometimes I want to try to write it in different ways just to see which way strengthens its message. Keep writing...

  9. Your poetry inspires me and makes me jealous! Ha! I think, sometimes, I simply write because I am afraid people will get sick of listening to me talk if I don't write some of my nonsense down! :)

    1. You crack me up! I had one student write about how when you write it down you can keep it forever! Think of that you are immortalized!

  10. I agree with Jen B - your poetry is very inspirational. I love all the lines, but I really love that last line -- I write...
I'm trying to get better about this.
